Taboo! Social is an adult social network built exclusively for Second Life residents.

Where do I get the Taboo! Social HUD?

The Taboo! Social HUD is available FREE from our official in-world locations and through the Second Life Marketplace.

Visit an official Taboo! Social location or vendor and click GET HUD to receive your personal copy.

To help protect the community and ensure every account is connected to a real Second Life avatar, new accounts can only be created through the Taboo! Social HUD.

After attaching the HUD, click the Home button on the left side. Your Taboo! Social account will be created automatically and connected to your Second Life avatar.

What viewers are supported?

Taboo! Social requires a Second Life viewer with Media-On-A-Prim support.

For the best experience, we recommend Firestorm or the official Second Life Viewer.

Some lightweight or older viewers may have limited media support, which can prevent parts of the HUD from loading or functioning correctly.

Why isn't my Taboo! Social HUD responding?

If the Taboo! Social HUD appears to load but clicking it doesn't do anything, don't panic. This is usually easy to fix.

First, try this:

• Detach the Taboo! Social HUD.
• Reattach it and wait for it to finish loading.
• Watch your Local Chat for the ready message.

Once you see the message:

• Click the Home button on the left side of the HUD, not the large display area in the center.
• The HUD will begin loading, and the display may briefly turn white.
• Once the screen turns white, click the white display area to activate it and continue.

Still having trouble?

Make sure another HUD isn't overlapping the Taboo! Social HUD. Even a partially overlapping HUD can prevent you from clicking buttons or interacting with the display correctly.

If the problem continues, clear your viewer's Browser or Media cache, reattach the HUD, and restart your viewer if necessary.

Why am I seeing a white screen?

The Taboo! Social HUD may briefly turn white while it loads. In most cases, you only need to click the white display area once to activate the media and continue.

If the page still does not appear, try the following:

• Click the white HUD display area.
• Make sure media is enabled in your viewer.
• Clear your viewer's Browser or Media cache.
• Detach and reattach the HUD.
• Restart your viewer.
• Restart your computer if necessary.
• Temporarily disable any VPN or proxy service.
• Try the latest version of Firestorm or the official Second Life Viewer.

If the problem began after updating your viewer, the update may have changed or reset your media settings.

I can't type in my profile, messages, or anywhere else.

If clicking inside a text field doesn't allow you to type, the Taboo! Social HUD may not have keyboard focus.

First, click somewhere inside the Taboo! Social HUD display before clicking the text field. This tells your viewer that you want to interact with the HUD's embedded browser.

If that doesn't help, make sure another HUD isn't overlapping the Taboo! Social HUD. Even when another HUD does not visibly cover the text field, it may still intercept your mouse clicks.

If you're still unable to type:

• Detach and reattach the Taboo! Social HUD.
• Wait until you see the ready message in Local Chat.

• Click the Home button on the left side of the HUD.
• Once the display loads, click somewhere inside the Taboo! Social HUD before trying the text field again.

If you're still unable to type after trying these steps, contact support and let us know which viewer you're using.

What is Error 105?

Error 105 usually means the Taboo! Social HUD was unable to communicate with our servers. This is most often caused by a temporary network issue, the viewer's embedded browser, or cached media data.

Before contacting support, try the following:

• Detach and reattach the Taboo! Social HUD.
• Wait until you see the ready message in Local Chat.

• Click the Home button on the left side of the HUD.
• Once the display turns white, click the HUD display area to continue.

If you're still receiving Error 105:

• Clear your viewer's Browser or Media cache.
• Relog into Second Life.
• Restart your internet connection if you're using Wi-Fi.
• Temporarily disable any VPN or proxy service.
• Restart your viewer.

If the error continues, there may be a temporary network issue or service interruption. Contact support and include:

• The viewer you're using.
• The exact error message.
• What you were trying to do when the error occurred.

The more information you provide, the faster we can help resolve the problem.

How do I temporarily hide my profile or control my privacy?

Taboo! Social gives you extensive control over who can see your profile and interact with you.

To change your privacy settings:

• Click your name at the very top of the page.
• Select Privacy.

From there, you can choose Everybody, Friends, or Only Me for many different parts of your profile, including:

• Who can view your profile.
• Whether your online presence is visible when you're logged in.
• Who can invite you to chat.
• Who can view your photo albums.
• Who can view your friends list.
• Who can view or comment on your Confessions.
• Other privacy options available throughout the site.

This allows you to make your profile as open or as private as you're comfortable with.

Please note: Some privacy changes may take a few minutes to fully take effect across the site, so don't be alarmed if they are not reflected immediately.

Should I use my Real Life age or my Second Life age?

You must be at least 18 years old in real life to use Taboo! Social.

We encourage members to use accurate information so other members can make informed decisions about who they communicate and connect with.

You may describe your Second Life character, persona, or roleplay identity elsewhere in your profile, but that does not replace the requirement that the person operating the account must be a real-life adult.

Please remember: Accounts believed to be operated by anyone under the age of 18 may be suspended or permanently removed.

How do I edit my profile?

Keeping your profile up to date helps other members get to know the real you.

To edit your profile:

• Click your name in the upper-right corner of the page.
• Select Profile Edit.

From there, you can update your profile information, interests, relationship preferences, biography, photos, and many other details about yourself.

Tip: A complete profile with recent photos and honest information is much more likely to receive attention from other members.

How do I change my Match Preferences?

Your Match Preferences help Taboo! Social introduce you to members you're more likely to enjoy meeting.

To update your Match Preferences:

• Click your name in the upper-right corner of the page.
• Select Matchmaking Preferences.

From there, you can adjust the types of members you're interested in meeting based on the available preference options.

Remember: Your Match Preferences directly influence your compatibility percentages and the members recommended to you. Keeping them up to date will help you receive better matches.

How do I upload or change my profile picture?

Your profile picture is one of the first things other members notice, so keeping it current is always a good idea.

To upload or change your profile picture:

• Go to your Dashboard.
• Hover your mouse over your current profile picture.
• Click the Change Avatar button.

From there, you can:

• Upload a brand-new picture from your computer.
• Choose one of the photos you've already uploaded to Taboo! Social.

Tip: Clear, recent profile pictures generally receive more profile views and help other members recognize you throughout the community.

How do I send someone a message?

There are several ways to start a conversation with another member on Taboo! Social.

You can send a message by:

• Clicking the Chat icon on a member's profile picture.
• Opening the member's profile, clicking the More button next to their profile picture, and selecting Send Message.
• Opening an existing conversation from your Messages page.
• Messaging a member after you've both matched in the Would You? section.

Taboo! Social is an adult social network with friendship, community, dating, and matchmaking features, so there are many ways to meet and communicate with other members.

Please remember: Be respectful when contacting other members. Not everyone is looking for the same type of relationship, and “No” is always a complete answer. Members who repeatedly harass others may have their accounts suspended or permanently removed.

Why do I need Credits or a VIP Membership?

To help reduce spam and encourage meaningful interactions, certain premium actions on Taboo! Social require either Credits or an active VIP Membership.

Credits are intended for non-VIP members who want to pay only for the premium actions they use.

VIP members can use premium features without spending Credits on individual actions.

You can access premium features by:

• Using Credits for individual premium actions.
• Purchasing a VIP Membership for full VIP access during the membership period.

Some activities may earn Credits while others spend them. To view the current Credit values and your personal Credit history:

• Go to your Dashboard.
• Locate the Credits section.
• Click Cost of Actions to see which activities earn or spend Credits.
• Click History to view your personal Credit transactions.

If you use Taboo! Social regularly, a VIP Membership is often the best value. It removes the need to spend Credits on individual premium actions while helping support the continued development of the community.

Tip: Credits are best for occasional use. VIP Membership is best for members who want full access without worrying about individual Credit costs.

Why don't I have any matches?

Finding the right people takes time. Some members make connections immediately, while others take a little longer. Don't get discouraged.

If you're not getting many matches, try the following:

• Complete your profile with honest information.
• Upload several clear photos that show your personality.
• Fill out your interests and relationship preferences.
• Review your Match Preferences to make sure you're not unintentionally filtering out people you would otherwise enjoy meeting.
• Be active in the community by posting, commenting, sharing photos, writing blogs, and interacting with others.

Remember that Taboo! Social is a social network first. Many friendships, romances, and other meaningful connections begin through photos, blogs, comments, Confessions, groups, events, and everyday community activity before they ever become a match.

The best advice? Be yourself. Complete your profile honestly, participate in the community, and let people get to know the real you.

How do matches work?
